Claro Walnut Chair

Created for the Furniture Design Studio class at CSU Chico. Used claro walnut which is excusively grown in Chico, CA. The angles of the base were calculated off the angle of the seat when sitting comfortably. I cut/welded/finished all the metal and wood needed for this project.
Initial design of a chair using claro walnut. Inspired by the adirondack chair.
Inspiration and furniture development through sketching. Full scale drawing of second chair design.
Third design in full scale after testing the angle of the back of the chair for comfortability. Used that angle to create the angles of the base.
Using AutoCad to figure out dimensions and angles of chair components.
Prototyping third design.
Prototype for second design.
Unfinished base after cutting and welding metal.
Planing walnut to get an even surface and prep before final finishing and construction.
Routing where the seat will rest on the base.
Applied two different patinas to the metal base.

All assembled.
